Some people would probably drive a stake through me for saying this. But I don’t think that Stephenie Meyer is a good writer.
Now let me clarify that. I still think people should read her books. She’s an icon right now. I mean she’s sort of just came from nowhere, and now there’s no way she’s leaving the national stage. She’s been in Time Magazine, she’s got people dressed up as her characters. She’s been compared to J.K. Rowling. It’s kind of fascinating anyhow, this Mormon housewife who writes such sizzling love stories that teenaged girls and married women alike are getting breathless when they read about Edward, that sexy character who happens to be a vampire.
What I mean when I say she’s not a good writer is that I just can’t like the main character. I don’t see what’s so great about her, and Meyer doesn’t put too much effort into convincing me why I should. Usually if I don’t like the protagonist, I don’t like the book. Period. Character development in a novel is almost as important as in a screenplay. But–and here’s a big but–what she can do is fast-paced action. People who don’t usually read are drawn into these books because they are page turners and so Meyer can be called a talent for that fact. I expect bigger, better things from her down the road.

she doesn’t put effort into convincing people cause she want them to let there imaginations run wild, she doesn’t want people to think on a strict line more of a wobbly line with no real boundaries some of the most brilliant minded people are that of my generation, we are inquisitive thinkers, yet video games take a lot of that away. woah i got way off topic, anyway the point is she wants you to run wild with your imagination, not follow the common ground set by the society. if i`m wrong, at least i made myself look smart for once, my name is Robert, i`m 16 years old and i enjoyed reading twilight, new moon, eclipse, and breaking dawn, i wish it never ended, and if your reading this Stephenie it would be awesome if you wrote more, even though all the baddies are basically gone
I completely agree with this review. The only people who get stirred up when someone criticizes Meyer’s work are the aforementioned teenagers and older women. For people who actually enjoy reading on a regular basis, the Twilight series does not hold enough substance.
As for the first comment: You’re entire review was one long sentence. Invest some cash in a grammar text book, then maybe we can talk literature.
And I spelled “your” as “you’re”. *headdesk*
